UMBRA: final scenes and evaluation

Obraz
These are two scenes I animated from the animation UMBRA. Unfortunately, I managed to animate only 16 seconds, which is less than I hoped for but I preferred quality over quantity.  The first scene was done frame after frame, so it took a lot of time even though it is only 6 seconds. I had to think how she would move while rotating herself and opening the door. It is only a silhouette, but I found out that animating a silhouette is even more difficult than a person which you can see. I did not have to do colours and shading, but her whole body became a big black blop and I needed to think really hard how would it look like. For the second scene, I used a different technique, similar to the one I used for Haroun. In photoshop, I animated a cycle of her walking with the phone flickering, then a cycle of her doing the same but with the lamplight on. Then in after effects, I created the camera movement for the background and I placed her in the foreground an...

Final animation

Obraz
My final animation consists of two scenes, one of them is throwing a ball, the other one is walking. There was supposed to be an interaction with other characters, so for the ball scene, I used a character Tuna (downloaded from Highend3D.com), who is catching the ball. For the scene with Blake walking and looking around I used Tuna again, who is hiding behind a wall/pillar made out of a polygon cube.  The ball scene is much shorter than the other one but was way more difficult to create. I mainly struggled with connecting the ball to wrists of both characters. After many failed attempts I decided to use another ball and exchange it for the original one in the frame where Tuna catches the ball. Posing of Blake was based on me throwing a snowball, Tuna was based on a baseball player and I really like how that turned out. It is obvious that Blake was the one where I was learning by the method attempt-fail, but posing Tuna was much easier and quicker, so my progress is visible eve...

Moon rig

Obraz
After learning how to rig we tried to rig our own models from the first semester. It is not completely successful, mainly because of weights, but I plan to make it better during the summer.

Ball throwing

In this lecture, we recorded a video of ourselves throwing a ball and then based our animation on it. It was the most difficult task so far and it took many attempts to get it right.

Walk cycle

Obraz
This time we learned how to do a walk cycle and add another movement to it. For my first walk cycle ever, I think it is quite successful and I plan to use it in my final animation.

Bony and stacks

Obraz
I think Bony and stacks is the least successful animation for me. Nothing really works there, the camera poses, timing, it is all off. After more weeks of working on other animations, I would be able to fix it easily if I had more time. But at least I can see how much I have improved and how my skills have changed.

Bouncy ball

Obraz
Bouncy ball is a classic animation to learn how things should work. Although I have done it before in 2D, I learned new things and I think they both work pretty well. The first bouncy ball is the classic one, the second one is based on a tennis ball, which I think looks much more natural than the first one.
